Congratulations, Prime Minister.
The CFPI congratulates Sir Keir Starmer and the Labour Party on forming a new government after a the public voted for change.
His first speech as Prime Minister carried a commitment to govern with humility, purpose, and a focus on service.
“Public service is a privilege… Your government should treat every single person in this country with respect.”
We welcome this wholeheartedly. We were especially encouraged by the Prime Minister’s commitment to:
“Rebuild Britain with wealth created in every community.”
That line speaks directly to what we’ve been asking for: a focus not just on growth, but on where and how it’s delivered. Real change starts on our doorsteps, in the assets and services that support connection, inclusion and opportunity.
For those of us who’ve been campaigning for stronger local infrastructure, for the community centres, libraries, parks, high streets and digital spaces that hold everyday life together, leadership makes a difference.
We echo the call for a “government of service” and a “calm and patient rebuilding”, but we also know how urgent this work is. As Sir Keir said, this must be a government that “fights every day until people believe again.”
To do that, we believe this new government must:
Commit to long-term investment in local places and the organisations that support them
Empower councils and communities with funding, tools and powers they need
Back infrastructure partnerships between the public, private and community sectors to deliver change that lasts
Put community assets at the heart of regeneration and growth
Build trust with clear, visible improvements to local life
This is a moment of possibility. If rebuilding our national spirit is the mission, social infrastructure is the foundation. We look forward to working with this new government to deliver for our communities.
